The Best Theatres and Shows at North Myrtle Beach

Spending all day at the beach is easily one of the most relaxing things you can do on vacation. But what do you do when the sun goes down? The nightlife at North Myrtle Beach is one of the best, and there’s always something going on. Whether you choose to go out and explore the many shops and bars or grab a drink along the boardwalk, North Myrtle Beach’s nightlife is vibrant and full of excitement. Its nightlife also includes a few theatres and shows that are worth a visit.

Many of the live music shows in Myrtle Beach are due to Calvin Gilmore, a country music singer and recording artist who believed that live music could survive along the Grand Strand.

Carolina Opry

The Carolina Opry is a long-lasting show of almost 30 years.  It was the first to open in Myrtle Beach and has been entertaining locals and tourists for decades. It was once the only show in the area for seven years.

This award-winning show lasts two hours and encompasses a variety of high-energy music, comedy, and dance. Even better, the show takes place inside a luxurious theatre, the Calvin Gilmore Theatre which features modern lighting, special effects, and comfortable seating.

It’s received countless reviews from The New York Times, USA Today, NBC Nightly News, and CNN. It was also named the “Top Attraction in Myrtle Beach” by CNBC.

The show features talent from All That, NBC’s America’s Got Talent, Nashville recording artist Brad Long, and a large cast from the nation’s most talented performaners, including several from Broadway. The show is currently in its 28th season and has a resume of 8,000 performances to date. If you’re surprised at any Broadway show that is listed as long-running, the Carolina Opry has been running longer than any Broadway performance in history. It’s this show that brings live entertainment to Myrtle Beach and shines a spotlight on the Grand Strand as a nightlife and live music district. The Calvin Gilmore Theatre also hosts a range of other performances throughout the year.

The Alabama Theatre

The Alabama Theatre is currently in its 22nd year and was recently voted as the No. 1 Live Entertainment Theatre by Myrtle Beach visitors and locals. It has a new original production called ONE The Show, which features live music, a variety of music genres, and dance. Similar to the Carolina Opry, it showcases the talent of country stars, gospel, Broadway, pop, and rock. The show will make guests feel like they are watching a performance from New York or Vegas. The lively show steals hearts and guarantees laughter.
