Family-Friendly Activities On Hilton Head Island

Hilton Head Island is a wonderful place for your next family vacation. The beaches are clean and wide with plenty of space for the kids to play. The island is also home to many activities that are ideal for families with children of all ages.

Ride Bikes
Bicycling is one of the best ways to travel around Hilton Head Island. Many of the areas are bike friendly and some of the beaches are also welcoming to bicyclists. For those who don’t have their own bicycles, there are many places around the island to rent bikes for riders of all ages. If you have young children, you can also rent bikes with child seats or trailers that are ideal for young children to ride in.

Enjoy the Beaches
Hilton Head has some of the most beautiful beaches on the East Coast. They’re wide enough for everyone to spread out and have their own space, and because of the lack of high rises on the island, they’re rarely overcrowded. The water is usually calm and most beaches have plenty of shallow areas for young kids to play. You can even rent a beach house from Palmetto Sands Vacation Rentals that’s big enough for the whole family and right on the beach.

Check Out Sea Pines
This private resort community allows guests in during the day to take advantage of the various attractions, including the Sea Pines Forest Preserve. They have guided horseback riding tours and many trails for walking. The forest preserve is ideal for families with young children as you can drive through without having to take the kids out of the car. You can see turtles, water birds, and alligators in the comfort of your vehicle, or take one of the boat tours.

Visit Harbour Town
The iconic lighthouse in Harbour Town is a must-see if you’re in the area. It has excellent views once you reach the top and you can often see dolphins playing nearby. The lighthouse has a narrow stairway and small children may need help getting up the stairs. Harbour Town also hosts many events during the summer for kids and there are several shops and dining spots in the area. Children will love seeing the different ships docked in the harbor.

Spend Time at the Coastal Discovery Museum
This museum is fun and educational, offering information on local wildlife and views of many species common to the area. Kids will love the walking trails and the butterfly house. Older kids and parents will also appreciate the historical information that tells about the Hilton Head Island’s past.
