5 Vacation Spots You’ve Never Heard Of

The world is full of beautiful sites and magical places, and each summer millions travel the world to catch a glimpse of these many wonders. Every traveler has a bucket list of must-see destinations far and wide, but it seems that a lot of these lists overlap. For the more adventurous traveler seeking something new, check out these five lesser-known destinations.

1. Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany

If Munich and Bavarian culture are high on your travel to-do list, then add this magnificent castle to your itinerary. Just a quick day trip from Munich can allow you to check out the beautiful mountaintop castle which was the model for Disney’s Sleeping Beauty castle and many others throughout popular culture. A rare sunny day in Bavaria makes this view absolutely breathtaking, but even on a typical cloudy day this castle is a must see. A bridge high up the mountain offers the best view, but it is quite a hike to get there. A bus can take weary travelers most of the way up the mountain.

2. Sucre, Bolivia

For a cultural experience, this Bolivian city offers a great opportunity to interact with local tradeswomen and get a taste of South American living. Gorgeous textiles woven with intricate and colorful patterns abound. Prices are relatively inexpensive, and shoppers get to discuss the weavings directly with the manufacturers. The mild climate offers travelers a pleasant bonus as they enjoy the culture of the area.

3. Lord Howe Island, Australia

Sydney travelers should consider adding this picturesque island to their travel plans, though visiting it is quite exclusive- only 400 tourists are allowed to visit at one time! Gorgeous white sand beaches, clear blue lagoons, rainforests, unbelievable wildlife, and volcanic peaks make this a true paradise. A bike ride around the island allows you to take in the wilderness at your own pace.

4. Namaqualand, South Africa

Namaqualand is a unique place to visit, but an unforgettable one. This area on the border of South Africa and Namibia, slightly larger than the state of California, offers travelers a stunning sight unlike any other. In the Spring months, daisies bloom covering the entire region with a floral blanket that makes for a beautiful setting.

5. Binn, Switzerland

Switzerland is full of beautiful cities with to-die-for skiing and gorgeous views around every corner. Binn is unique mostly in its underdevelopment- years ago, citizens of the city decided to vow never to add the ski resorts and accompanying tourist industry to its infrastructure. The result is a stunning natural area that’s perfect for hikers and outdoor lovers who want to get away from the touristy areas.
